The Lord's Prayer | "Where did we get that prayer anyway?" It was Jesse, the kid in your junior high confirmation class who is always trying to get you away from your prepared notes. (Are your notes that dull, or does Jesse have a bet going with the other kids?) You hesitated at the question. You knew right away that we got the Lord's Prayer from Jesus, but you weren't sure where exactly to find it in the Bible. "That's a great question. Let's look at the Lord's Prayer in the New Testament next week," you said, buying a little time. Since then, you have found the prayer in two places in the synoptic gospels. Your task now: compare these versions of the prayer and prepare a plan for your one-hour confirmation class that will introduce the Lord's Prayer in the New Testament to 8th graders. Be sure that your plan includes asking them questions and giving them time to discover some things about the Prayer from reading the Bible themselves. You aren't going to lecture at them.
